The Dean of Research supports the research mission of the university. Major responsibilities include: working with the OSPR staff on managing sponsored research; promoting faculty research; oversight of regulatory compliance, including human participants, environmental health and safety, patents and copyright, and the University’s conflict of interest policy.
The Dean of Research has also assumed some responsibility for some institutional grant writing and works with the Development office and OSPR on obtaining external funding for core university initiatives.

 Joan McGrath Administrative Assistant for the Dean of Research The Administrative Assistant is the first contact person for all faculty and graduate student external grant applications. She handles the pre-award grant process and provides information about federal grant application guidelines and electronic submissions to the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, etc.
Joan assists with the cover pages and assurance pages and helps with any questions about preparing and checking grant budgets and proposal preparation. Joan also handles internal funds for the Faculty Development fund and the Junior and Senior Faculty Fellowships. She is the first contact for Clark's IRB (Internal Review Board for Research Involving Human Subjects) and she organizes the proposal submissions, meetings, and proposal decision forms for the Chair of the IRB.
