Worcester, MA: ClarkArts at Clark University presents music scholar/lecturer/pianist Veronica Jochum. Ms Jochum will appear at Clark University on September 28, 2005, for a 12:00 p.m. colloquium and 8:00 p.m. performance. Ms. Jochum will be presenting a concert of music celebrating both the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz and the 15th anniversary of the liberation of South Africa. Know for her lecture/concerts, Ms. Jochum will be discussing the social and musical ramifications of both liberation of both lands.

About the Veronica Jochum: The daughter of eminent conductor Eugen Jochum (1902-87), and widow of the late architect and Harvard University professor Wilhelm V. von Moltke, pianist Veronica Jochum von Moltke has been associated with musical greatness throughout her acclaimed career. A former student of piano legends Josef Benvenuti, Edwin Fischer and Rudolf Serkin, who first invited her to study in America, she recently celebrated her 35th anniversary on faculty at New England Conservatory where she has taught countless young players the lessons of her mentors.

She has performed in over 50 countries with premier orchestras like the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony and Philharmonic and the Orchestre National de France, and under the batons of such renowned conductors as her father, Jiri Belohlavek, Lukas Foss, Bernard Haitink, Sir Colin Davis, and Gunther Schuller. In the chamber music setting, she has also cooperated with musicians like Colin Carr, Natalja Gutman, Lawrence Lesser, Josef Silverstein, Arnold Steinhardt, Mazuko Ushioda, and the Berlin Philharmonic’s Octet and Philharmonia Quartet, as well as many singers. Her festival appearances in the United States include the Marlboro, Tanglewood, Spoleto, Sandpoint, Northwest Bach, and Eastern Music festivals, and she has appeared throughout Europe at the Montreux, Mecklenburg, Bregenz, Wallonie, and Salzburg Mozart festivals among others. Her performances and recordings are broadcast regularly on National Public Radio and in Europe.

Although her repertoire ranges from Bach to contemporary, she is also associated with composers Ferruccio Busoni, Robert and Clara Schumann, and Johannes Brahms, thanks to her pioneering recordings and the creative themes of her innovative "commentary concerts," which integrate informed discourse with live performance. A Steinway artist who recently performed at the company's 150th anniversary celebration at Boston's Symphony Hall, Ms. Jochum has recorded for the Deutsche Grammophon, Philips, Laurel, CRI, GM Recordings, Golden Crest, Tudor and Tahra labels. She was awarded the Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1994 for her embodiment of the highest traditions of German culture, and honored with a Bunting Institute fellowship from Harvard University in 1996. She continues to perform around the world, recently celebrating her father's centennial at various events in Europe.

Admission to both the colloquium and performance are free and open to the public.
