“Clark Talk About Iraq” Lectures to be Held at Clark University

WORCESTER, Mass. - At convocation this year, Dean of the College Doug Little started a conversation in his address, “Over Here: Why We Need to Talk About Iraq,” which he committed to continuing through the rest of the academic year. His goal is to well inform the Clark community about the causes and consequences of the Iraq War from as many different perspectives as possible. To meet this, Dean Little is putting together a series of lectures and events about various aspects of the Iraq War.

Lecture
“A Critical Look at the Occupation of the West Bank and Gaza & the Implications for the War in Iraq”

Dr. Alice Rothchild, a prominent Boston based physician and local activist will speak on her recent trip with the Jewish American Medical Project to Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza. Her lecture will focus on the health and human rights implications of occupation specifically on Gaza and the West Bank and will discuss how this situation relates to the US occupation in Iraq. Following her talk, Dr. Rothchild will participate in a Q and A period regarding student questions about the Middle East. Accompanying Dr. Rothchild, the panel will include Dean Little, as well as several other Clark University faculty members. This event is sponsored by Clark Peaceworks. “Poets Against the War”

Dennis Brutus, Poet-in-Residence at Worcester State College, and renowned South African poet, activist and professor will speak about various aspects of the Iraqi War. Brutus is a charismatic speaker who has recently been focusing on the injustices of the IMF and World Bank policies in Third World countries, including the impact on the environment. This lecture is free and open to the public. For more information, call 508-793-7671.
