Upgrade to Broadband in Your Res Hall Room

Clark University and Charter Communications have partnered to offer students living in University residence halls the option to purchase Charter High Speed Internet Service, providing a download speeds much faster than the standard ClarkNet connection.

What is available WITHOUT Charter Broadband?
All res hall rooms offer the "standard" connection to ClarkNet included in room rates as designated by Residence Life and Housing. All individuals using ClarkNet share the University's Internet connection. The connection speeds experienced are based on how many other people (students, faculty, and staff) are using the network at the same time. ClarkNet's bandwidth supports Internet use for academic and basic communication purposes. It does not support high bandwidth recreational applications such as filesharing, Internet gaming, Internet phoning, etc.
What do you get with Charter Broadband?
This optional service provides a personal High Speed Internet connection offering 2Mbps downstream and 2Mbps upstream. This service is akin to the bandwidths offered to home subscribers to DSL or cable modem service in most US locales. The bandwidth is dedicated, available exclusively for your computer's use and not shared by anyone else on the University network.
What does it cost?
While most broadband services have a fee of about $40.00 per month, Charter High Speed service for students living in Clark University residence halls can be purchased for far less. Rather than paying monthly access fees, you may choose a package that matches the time you'll be on campus. For example:

Spring Semester Only $85
Please Note: Service will be activated in accordance with the package dates. Signing up by 4:30 p.m. on a business day in the service window will typically result in service activation by end of the following business day.
What's the Refund Policy for Broadband
All Students who enroll in this service will have the cost of the plan charged directly to their student account. Students may cancel their broadband service at any time by going to the Help Desk in Carlson Hall Room 019 Monday thru Friday 8:30am to 5pm. Students who purchase an academic year plan (Fall and Spring) may be eligible for a refund. All other plans are non-refundable. Once a student cancels a plan in one academic year, they are no longer eligible to sign up for the service again in that same academic year.
  • Academic Year Plan, Fall and Spring (October through May): Students enrolled in this plan, who cancel by January 1st, will receive a reduction of broadband charges on their student account equal to the difference between the academic year plan and the Fall plan. Students, who cancel this plan after January 1st, will not be eligible for a reduction of charges.
