TOEFL Requirements
Successful candidates score within the range 80-120 range on the ibT, (550-677 on the paper version). Students must be able to read, speak and write English fluently, as well as be able to take notes and understand hour-long lectures. If English is not your native language, you are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), even if you are a U.S. citizen.

- What if I don't score above 80 (550)?
- Students who have strong academic backgrounds may be granted conditional or provisional admission with TOEFL scores below 80 (550).
Conditional Admittance
Conditionally admitted students begin their Clark journey by improving their English proficiency through the American Language and Culture Institute (ALCI), Clark's own on-campus ESL program providing intensive ESL instruction, private tutorial sessions, TOEFL preparation and computer-assisted language learning. Successful completion of ALCI classes, along with the recommendation of the ALCI staff, allows students to begin degree study without further application. Conditional students usually score between 60-69 (500-519) on the TOEFL.
Provisional Admittance
Students with a TOEFL score between 70-79 (520) may be offered provisional admission. They begin their studies at Clark by taking two undergraduate course and two courses in ALCI to strengthen their English language skills.
