Lisa Kasmer
- Received a Faculty Development Funds Grant and a Higgins School of Humanities mini-grant to attend the Oxford Round Table Conference in March 2006
- Received a Clark University CRIT Grant to create a website for her Spring 2007 English 263/363 class, British Romantic Literature: Race and Revolution in Romanticism.
- Received a Higgins School of Humanities grant to carry out research at the University of Rochester's Rare Book Library.
Fern Johnson
- Francine Merritt Award recipient, presented annually by the Women's Caucus of the National Communication Association for outstanding contributions to the lives of women in the NCA and the communications discipline, 1999.
- Robert J. Kibler Memorial Award recipient, presented annually by the National Communication Association for dedication to excellence, commitment to the profession, concern for others, vision of what could be, acceptance of diversity and forthrightness, 1994.

Winston Napier
- The U.S. Postal Service recognized the community-outreach achievement of the Higgins School of Humanities for its African American Intellectual Culture Series on March 21, 2006. The award was presented to Sarah Buie, director, Higgins School of Humanities and Winston Napier who initiated the series and has hosted it for over a decade.

- Received a CETL Grant to develop an online prosody handbook with Lea Graham for use in the English Department.
