Linda Wage begins her 23rd season as the Clark University field hockey coach. During her tenure, the two-time New England Division III Coach of the Year has earned a career 237-162-31 mark, including 14 post-season tournaments, a 1991 NCAA berth and a record-breaking 2002 season (19-4).
A four-year starter at Providence College (B.A., 1981), Wage is Providence’s all-time leading field hockey scorer with New England records of 95 career goals and 213 career points. Nationally, she ranks 11th in career goals and 12th in career points. Wage also was a four-year member of the Providence basketball team, which won the AIAW Regional crown. In addition, she captained the softball team and was a four-year starter. In 1980, Wage was honored as Providence’s Female Athlete of the Year and inducted into the Providence College Hall of Fame in 2003. Prior to Providence College, Wage was a three-sport standout at Holy Name High School, where she was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2006.
In addition to coaching field hockey, Wage is a 20-year veteran coach for Clark softball. The long-time coach helped celebrate the 30th anniversary of both field hockey and softball last year. In 2007, Wage notched her 300th career-win and currently owns a 327-222 career mark. In the last 13 years, Wage has led her team to seven post-season appearances. The 1999 NEWMAC Coach of the Year also guided the Cougars to a 31-11 record and to their first NCAA Division III Tournament. She also received conference honors as NEW 8 Coach of the Year in 1996.
Wage also served as assistant women’s basketball coach at Clark from 1984-96 and helped guide the Cougars to four NCAA tournament appearances and three ECAC New England titles.
