Worcester
The Clark University Economics Society welcomed alumni David Begelfer ’69, Henry Wheelwright ’01, Joshua Lappen ’02 and Christopher Griffith ’01 (pictured) back to campus on March 19 for a discussion panel on the Subprime Mortgage Crisis.
Providence, R.I.
On March 26 Brian Stern ’88, Chief of Staff to Governor Donald Carcieri, hosted alumni, parents and students at the Rhode Island State House for a tour and reception with special guest Governor Carcieri who presented a special citation to President Bassett for the impressive relationship between Clark and the community.
Washington, D.C.
Alumni met with current students at the Capitol City Brewing Company on March 28 for the Alumni-Student Networking Lunch.
Scituate, Mass.
The Boston Regional Alumni Community came together on March 29 as part of the first Alumni Just Do It Day to help the Mass Audubon Society clean up the Third Cliff Beach. Pictured here are: Jared Fijalkowski ’04 and Rich Fields ’03.

Following the Multidisciplinary Conference on April 2, the Alumni Association, Graduate School, and Graduate Student Council sponsored a reception at Harrington House for the students, alumni and faculty of Clark ’s graduate programs.

Alumni joined Clark students for their sixth-annual Just Do It Day on April 5 to volunteer at various nonprofit agencies in Worcester, including spending the day with the residents of the Donna Kay Rest Home.

On April 12, the Softball and Field Hockey teams celebrated their 30th anniversaries. The current teams were joined by 150 alumni, parents and friends. The group shared photos and stories throughout the history of the two sports, and honored Linda Wage who has coached at Clark for 23 years.
Boston
On April 18 nearly 200 alumni, students and faculty from the Graduate School of Geography gathered for a reception at the Lenox Hotel during the 2008 meeting of the Association of American Geographers. Graduates Of the Last Decade gathered at Bar None, owned by Bernard Young ’01, on April 24 for a young alumni reception.
New York City
Alumni, parents and friends came to the Jewish Community Center of Manhattan to hear Clark ’s Strassler Family Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies Director Debórah Dwork lecture on her new book “The Terezín Album of Mariánka Zadikow.”

The Boston Regional Alumni Council met on May 1 at the home of Robin Cohen ’06 and Corey Simon ’06.
Worcester
More than 140 guests attended the Jonas Clark Fellows Recognition Dinner on May 3 at the EcoTarium in Worcester. Guests enjoyed viewing the EcoTarium ’s nature exhibits over cocktails, and dinner was highlighted with a presentation from Jim Gomes, director of the Mosakowski Institute for Public Enterprise. Kiss the Seniors Goodbye
The annual senior send-off party sponsored by the Alumni Association and the Student Alumni Relations Committee was held on May 13 at McFadden ’s in Worcester, before a pub crawl, sponsored by Senior Week, which would take seniors to all of their favorite spots from the past four years.
Alumna/Trustee lectures on climate change issues on the west coast
Jackalyne Pfannenstiel ’69 presented Clark’s 2008 Geller Lecture on April 7. The Geller Endowed Lecture Series was established in 2004 by Howard Geller ’77 and his parents Albert and Norma to address current topics related to areas of energy, environment and sustainability.
In her lecture, “California Takes on the Challenge of Climate Change; Meeting the State’s Energy Needs in a Carbon-Constrained World,” Pfannenstiel talked about the issues she faces as chair of the California Energy Commission. Pfannenstiel is a member of Clark ’s Board of Trustees. She received her degree in economics from Clark in 1969.
On April 8, Pfannenstiel joined Clark Provost David Angel and Vice President for Administration and Finance Jim Collins and others for “Confronting Climate Change on Campus: Striving for Climate Neutrality at Clark,” a panel discussion to enhance campuswide dialogue on what steps, both technological and behavioral, that Clark can take to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions and move toward climate neutrality. IDCE professor Jennie Stephens moderated.
These events were part of the Difficult Dialogues Program’s Spring Symposium on climate change.
