Alumni Association Strategic Plan
Beginning in 2000, the Strategic Planning Committee, encouraged by the Clark University Board of Trustees, initiated the process to develop a strategic plan that would elevate the Alumni Association to the next level.

Strategic Planning Progress and Initiatives

As of May 1, 2003

Communication (Visibility):

  • Established online alumni community
    • As of May 1, 2003 we have 3,066 registered users (12.8% of active records).
      • Intend to increase percentage to 15% in FY í04 and 20% in FY í05
    • As of August 27, 2002 we had 5,938 alumni e-mail addresses (26% of active records).
      • Intend to increase percentage to 30% in FY í03 (as of April 15, 2003 we have 7,313 e-mail ñ or 30.5%) , 35% in FY í04 and 45% in FY í05.
    • As of August 27, 2002 we had 416 alumni have registered for a permanent e-mail with Clark.
      • Intend to increase this to 500 in FY í03 (as of April 15, 2003, we have 847), 550 in FY í04 and 600 in FY í05.
    • Connected with alumni from several different countries including: the United States, Israel, Japan, Netherlands, France, Sweden, Switzerlan, India, United Kingdom and Canada.
  • Increased number of regional events from 26 (FY í01) to 40 (FY í02). Intend to increase to 43 in FY í03 (as of April 15, 2003 we have had 39 ñ with 5 more still planned), 45 in FY í04 and 50 in FY í05.
  • Expanded alumni attendance at regional events from 830 (FY í00) and 1044 (FY í01) to an expected 1250 in FY í02.  Intend to increase alumni attendance to 1350 in FY í03 (as of April 15, 2003 we have 1077 alumni in attendance), 1500 in FY í04 and 1650 in FY í05.
  • Regional Alumni Communities
    • In FY í02, we established Alumni Communities in 6 cities
      • Boston, New York, Washington D.C., Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles
    • We expected to establish 6 additional Regional Alumni Communities for FY í03. Communities
      • Communities were established in Atlanta, Rhode Island, Philadelphia, and Hartford.
    • Expect to increase the number of Alumni Communities by 5 for FY í04 and FY í05.
  • Increased and improved Web presence
    • Upgraded Alumni Web Pages
      • Online registration to events and Reunion
      • Increase sale of Clark merchandise
  • Reaching out to other groups
    • Successful Alumni Athlete Homecoming event held October, 2001 with approximately 125 alumni attending.
      • NOT HELD in 2002 because of New Dolan Field House
      • 2003 - Plan to enhance by making it an Alumni Homecoming in fall. Making it an annual event for all alumni NOT just alumni athletes.
        • Future Goals
          • 2003 - 150 alumni
          • 2004 - 200 alumni
          • 2005 - 300 alumni
      • GSOM ñ Central MA and New York area events held in Fall 2001
        • 2003 ñ Hold GSOM events in other parts of the country
        • Invited Geography alumni to National Geographers Conference reception in San Francisco in March, 2002
        • Held a GSOM event in Boston on May 22, 2002

    • Improving database accuracy
      • New Web version for Banner
      • Increase in address updates and contact data from Online Community. Over 1,300 data updates were received directly from alumni as of August 27, 2002. We have had OVER 3,000 address updates as of April 15, 2003.

Governance:

  • Successful transition to Executive Board
  • Alumni-Elected Trustee responsibilities
    • Increased interaction with Alumni Council.  Live reports at every Alumni Council meeting
  • Virtual Alumni Council
    • All Alumni Community members included in discussion items and role of alumni with University: 60 plus alumni

Resource and Financial

  • Reunion gift contest very successful last year with $273,405 in gifts, the most ever for total reunion class giving. Repeat for this year and going forward.
  • Online donations facilitated on a secure Web server
  • Assist with re-staffing Class Agent Program
  • Assist with Senior Class Gift Committee
  • Tracking regional event attendance with donations to Clark Fund

Academic:

  • Inviting more faculty on the road to alumni events. Clark faculty made presentations at 10 receptions.
  • Announcing key academic seminars and symposiums to alumni
  • Student Involvement
    • Class of 2005 and 2002 Receptions completed
    • Anticipate receptions for all 4 classes by next year (2002-2003)
    • Alumni Office advising Pasticcio (yearbook)
    • Increase membership in SARC from 30 to 70 students; hosted District Student Alumni Conference at Clark ñ Feb. 2002. Over 250 students from 23 institutions (2 from Canada).
    • SARCís Winter Festival held 3 years in row
    • Regular meetings with students
    • Student Outreach/Clark Fund Committee provided pencils and cookies during Fall and Spring finals.
    • Alumni Association is hosting an event to educate student leaders from the class of 2002 on what it takes to become an active alumnus.
    • A letter from the President of the Alumni Association will be sent to all graduating seniors with a window decal.
    • Alumni Association with SARC is sponsoring Class of 2002 event in downtown Worcester, May 12 during Senior Week.
  • Admissions
    • Expanded Alumni Admissions Programógoal of 1500 interviews offered ñ actually completed 850.
    • Establishing Interview/College Fair Captains
    • Increase number of receptions
    • Expanded Fee Waiver Program
  • Career Services
    • Assisting with Shadow Program
    • Utilizing Career Opportunities and Searches on Web with Online Community
    • Will be offering a mentor program to alumni in FY í03.
    • Plan to increase number of alumni participating on career panels in FY í03 and FY í04.
    • Planning Graduate and Undergraduate Academic Spree Day Receptions in Spring of 2002
    • Increase faculty presentations on research or particular areas of interest in FY í03 and FY í04.

  • Completed our 3rd Annual First-Year Student Move In Day.
  • Recognition of Alumni services
    • Alumni volunteers
    • Alumni in public service
  • University Campus School Mentor Program
    • Assisting with college/university admissions
    • Planning major graduation event for 1st graduating class (Spring, 2003)
    • Expanding number of alumni mentors and programs
    • Community service activities such as Jeremiahís Inn
