Clark's mission to develop students who are sensitive and responsive to the challenges and needs of diverse people has never been more important to society than today. In the face of these challenges, I am convinced that Clark's leadership is necessary to improve discourse in global and American polity on how to advance the public good. Critical to Clark's pursuit of this aim is its productive partnership with its alumni and their acceptance of their important role in this process. This is why I consider my Alumni Trustee nomination an honor and privilege; a special opportunity to help progress the mission of the university that I love and admire.
I have had an extraordinary relationship with Clark, since I joined its family in 1983 as a graduate student in economics. Clark's talented professors and supportive environment nurtured my intellectual spirit, encouraged my imagination and ambition and perfectly complemented the efforts of my parents, who did not have the opportunity of higher education. While a student, I served as resident director of three halls, interim director of the Mary McLeod Bethune Multicultural Center, and head coach of Women's Varsity Soccer.
Clark's investment in me has influenced many of my professional and civic accomplishments. It was the critical foundation for my achievement of tenure, promotion and appointment as dean of studies at Lafayette College, my work as an economic adviser to international and local governments, and my leadership in the entrepreneurial economic development of income-poor communities in the United States and Latin America. I serve on a number of boards, including the Boys & Girls Club, and as Mayoral-appointed commissioner on Easton's Human Relations Commission. I am grateful to Clark for many things, including introducing me to my wife and giving my oldest child her first Clark sweatshirt, which my youngest child has proudly grown into. I would be grateful to serve Clark as an Alumni Trustee.
