Charles B. Cohn, Class of 1935, established this fund in 1984 in honor of Professor Leroy Allston Ames, longtime faculty member of the English Department, to provide an annual prize for undergraduate student writing.

Theodore and Phyllis Barbera Fund
In 1968, members of the family of Mr. Theodore Barbera established this fund as an award for the outstanding graduating senior in Spanish studies. In the event that there is no suitable candidate for the award in any year, the award may be made to the outstanding graduating senior in French studies.

William H. Carter Jr. Prize in English
The William H. Carter Jr. Prize in English was established in 2003 by Harriet R. Carter in memory of her
husband William H. Carter Jr., an English Department professor for over three decades. In addition to his teaching and scholarship, Dr. Carter chaired the department for three consecutive terms. The prize is awarded at Fall Convocation to the outstanding senior English major.

Morris H. Cohen Endowed Student Prize Fund
Established in 1992 to honor the memory of Morris H. Cohen, this fund provides a prize to recognize the outstanding government major at the beginning of his or her senior year. The prize is presented at Fall Convocation. Morris H. Cohen joined the government faculty at Clark in 1947. He retired in 1989 and remained an active member of the Clark community by directing the Clark Washington Semester Program at American University.

Loring Dodd Drama Award
Established in 1955 by Loring Holmes Dodd, this fund provides an award for a one-act play written by a Clark undergraduate.

Thomas M. Dolan Outstanding Service Awards at Clark University
The Ruth H. and Warren A. Ellsworth Foundation established this fund in 1988 to honor Thomas M. Dolan, '62, M.A.Ed. '63, on the occasion of his 25 years of service to Clark. This fund provides an award to one female graduating senior and one male graduating senior in recognition of their outstanding service to the University.

Albert C. Erickson Scholarship Fund and Award
This fund and award were established in 1961 by the Tupper Foundation to provide an award to a junior at Clark who has done outstanding work in physics and mathematics, and who shows unusual promise in these fields.

Excellence in Student Government Award
This fund was established in 2001 by Brian K Yee, Class of 1993 to endow a prize awarded to the student group, funded by the Student Council for at least one full year, that has exemplified excellence in student government.

Gurel Asian Studies Endowed Fund
Established in 1999 by Dr. Lee Gurel, Class of 1948, this fund provides an award for the most outstanding student in the Asian Studies Program. The award is presented during Honors Convocation.

Lee Gurel/John E. Bell Endowed Student/Faculty Achievement Award
Dr. Lee Gurel, Class of 1948, endowed this fund in 1995 in honor of Professor John E. Bell, a former psychology professor, to provide two $1,000 prizes. One prize is awarded to the most outstanding senior psychology major who has attended Clark for at least three years and has been accepted into an accredited psychology graduate program. The second prize is awarded to a Clark faculty member selected by the student recipient, following consultation with and confirmation by the Dean of the College and Provost, as having had the most influence on the student
recipient while at Clark.

Sherman S. Hayden Prize
The family and friends of Sherman S. Hayden established this fund in 1995 to provide a prize for an essay on a topic that connects ethical values and the conduct of public affairs. In keeping with Professor Hayden's historical grounding, the essay may deal with the history of a particular problem and its ethical ramifications or with a contemporary problem in its historical context and perspective. Professor Hayden joined the Clark faculty in 1946 as a member of the History and Government and International Relations departments. He served as departmental chair from 1962 to 1969. Professor Hayden was known for the breadth of his knowledge, the diversity of his interests and his probing insight into the ethical dilemmas of politicians and statesmen. He retired in 1973 after 27 years of exemplary service to the University and to hundreds of students, both undergraduates and graduate.

Sallie R. Holthausen Prize for Excellence in International Relations
The Sallie R. Holthausen Prize for Excellence in International Relations was established in 1989 by family and friends in honor and memory of Sallie R. Holthausen, Class of 1958, to provide a prize for the outstanding student in international relations. The prize is presented at Honors Convocation.

Prentiss Hoyt Fund
In 1923, Clark alumni established this fund as a memorial to Dr. Prentiss Cheney Hoyt, professor of English at Clark from 1909 to 1920. The fund supports a prize for the best poem written by a Clark undergraduate.

Hazel Hughes Endowed Award in Women's Studies
Ann McKenney Early '46, L.H.D. '92 established this fund in 1998 in honor and memory of Hazel Hughes, Class of 1944, Clark's first Dean of Women, from 1949 to 1968. The award is for an undergraduate senior Women's Studies student who best exemplifies the program's goals of excellence in academic achievement and service.

Howard Bonar Jefferson Endowed Prize Fund
This fund was established in 2007 by Margaret W. and Richard P. Traina in
memory of Howard Bonnar Jefferson, whose leadership as Clark's President
from 1946 to 1967 significantly reinforced the University’s academic
programs and reputation. This fund shall provide an award to a Clark
undergraduate selected as the outstanding graduating senior. The recipient
shall be chosen based upon his/her demonstrated academic excellence, breadth
of intellectual interests, depth of intellectual commitment, and scholarly
or creative achievement. |
Henry Donaldson Jordan Award in History
In 1973, the family and friends of Dr. Henry Donaldson Jordan endowed this fund to provide an annual award to a graduate student in the History Department chosen at the discretion of the department, taking into consideration a general high standard of scholastic achievement, and qualities of character which will be valuable in the training of teachers.

Family and friends established this fund in memory of John O'Connor, Class of 1978, to provide an award to an outstanding undergraduate student in one of the environmental studies programs. The award is made based on the quality of an individual project in the study of the environment and on overall academic work.

Patricia M. Plamondon Undergraduate Award in Visual and Performing Arts
This fund was established in 1996 by the family and friends of Patricia Plamondon to provide an award to visual and performing arts majors in their junior or senior year. The award is made by a vote of the full-time faculty of the Visual and Performing Arts Department. Recipients are students who have demonstrated their talent in and commitment to the arts and for whom the award will serve to enhance their studies, research, or project-related travel.
